Love It Or Hate It, It's Valentine's Day. I Hate it. So Why Am I Writing About it?

This time of year can be brutal. In fact my friend Marco accurately dubbed the time from Thanksgiving to Valentine’s Day as “The Mean Season”. A time when being single is never more obvious or inconvenient to you and those around you. And of course, the horrific climax of the mean season should be no surprise… Valentine’s Day.

I have never liked Valentine’s Day. I think in part it falls into the category of not liking to be told what to do or when to do it. Also, if you are only reminding the people you love how you feel 1 day of 365 due to the social pressure of a greeting card company than I think you need to re-examine your relationships. In fact, I think we should abolish Valentine’s Day all together and I will start a petition to replace Valentine’s Day with a second Halloween, which I personally think is a genius idea.

Although I hate Valentine’s Day, I love LOVE and all the incredible, wonderful forms it can take. So for me it is not about being single or in a relationship during the Mean Season, that is not it. I have been single for awhile now and I have to say it is going really well. I don’t want to jinx it but I think I might even be ”the one”.

So with the Christmas lights all taken down across London and put away for another year the city has replaced them with heart shaped wreaths ….blossoming pink and red flowers and Valentine inspired decorations. 

This Valentine’s Day I thought I would show you how pretty London looks celebrating LOVE...and the various forms it can take (please see cronut above).

So until my 2nd Halloween petition is law (please sign when it comes your way) I will try and make the best of this day by reflecting on the things and people I love. My awesome kickass friends, their dogs, my crazy “but I like them that way“ family, truffle-fries, sterling roses, Rob Thomas and the incredible city I now call home, London.
